SABA-AUGUST 23, 2018- Juancho E.Yrausquin Airport, located on the Dutch Caribbean Island of Saba, will close temporarily from September 10 to October 9, 2018 for a renovation to its world renowned runway. At only 400m in length, it is the shortest commercial air strip in the world. To ensure safe air travel to and from the island, the runway”s current asphalt layer will be replaced with a new concrete runway which offers a longer lifespan.

During the four week renovation, three additional ferry services will be provided between Saba and three different locations on St. Maarten. Ferries will run twice daily in each direction and will offer special prices starting at US$20.00 one-way and US$40.00 round-trip. More information on ferry services can be found at: sabatourism.com.

On September 10, the airport will close at 7:00 PM to allow for the last flight of that day depart. The airport will reopen on October 9 at 6:00 AM to receive the first flight.

About Saba – Often referred to as “The Unspoiled Queen,” Saba is the smallest of the Dutch Caribbean islands, but its unique offerings belie its size.  One of the most distinctive and beautiful places on earth, this five square mile tropical forest soars 5,000 feet from the sea floor of which 3,000 feet are visible. With a population of just over 1,800, Saba is comprised of four main villages – The Bottom (Saba”s capital), Windwardside, St. John”s, and Zion”s Hill (a.k.a. “Hell”s Gate”). From the wide expanse of sea, jewel-like foliage and flowers that climb the mountainsides and the charming Saban cottages and buildings, Saba is a welcoming and friendly paradise for people who desire peace, tranquility and beauty. In addition, Saba is world renowned for scuba diving and hiking trails, as well as deep sea fishing and snorkeling.Saba can be reached by air and sea from the neighboring island of St. Maarten. www.sabatourism.com
